Florian Schumacher, Quantified Self Deutschland: “The Quantified Self”
The Quantified Self is a movement of users and toolmakers  interested in self-knowledge through numbers. Apps and connected sensors generating data about health, behavior and environment have become quite popular and more and more people seek to improve their lives by self-tracking. Not only in sports but also in health, wellness  or even career, customers adopt new tools and what has been a hobby for a tech elite will soon hit the mainstream. This talk features the various use cases for self-tracking and upcoming trends, also describing the potential of the smartphone as a connected hub for quantifying our lives and how wearable technologies like smart watches and glasses will lead to a new data driven lifestyle.

Alexander Kagoshima, Data Scientist @ Pivotal: “Data Science and the Internet of Things – Deep Analytics on Traffic Data”
In the next few years we will most likely see huge growth in the amount of traffic data generated through built-in automotive sensors and mobile devices. This talk presents a case study of analytics on traffic data. Methods will be presented that yield a deep understanding of traffic and its characteristics by analyzing different types data. These methods could be extended to predict traffic jams, enhance routing systems and optimize fuel efficiency.

Dominikus Baur, Freelance designer & researcher: “Big pictures in the small – Visualizations on mobile devices”
Mobile devices – smartphones and tablets – give us access to data and analytical capabilities everywhere. In this talk, Dominikus will show how changes in our computing environments also change our interaction with visualizations. Aspects such as changing locations, social context, interruptions and the all-encompassing touch input require adaptations, but also open up new pathways towards insight. Dominikus will explain best practices in information architecture and interaction design on the basis of real-world examples from casual information, personal informatics and business intelligence, showing how mobile visualizations can become a central staple of our future analysis environments.

During the session the presenter will present one potential Big Data Use Case in the “Zero Distance” world. Zero distance is the new proximity to the customer that is a decisive competitive factor and the ideal basis for long-term customer loyalty. Applying Big Data in the automotive sector not only promises cost savings, it also provides exciting and potentially very lucrative ways to expand a company’s business model. If done right, Big Data can definitely help OEMs to establish and optimize direct relationships with the consumer.
